Parenting and UTIs

When you're a teenage girl the last thing you want to worry about is dealing with a UTI. But the fact of the matter is that nearly 80% of girls between the ages of 3-18 will get experience the pain and irritation of a urinary tract infection at least once.
What do you do to prevent them naturally?

You probably already know that the earlier you treat a UTI the better. Problem is, a lot of girls are just not that familiar with the early warning signs of a UTI and honestly, some are just easy to miss because many girls don’t know their body’s well enough to differentiate between all the new hormonal changes they experience and a UTI.

But just like we have “the talk” with our girls about their changing body’s and periods, It’s important to sit them down and actually explain what early warning signs of a urinary tract infection can feel like because chances are, if they haven’t already experienced one, they will soon enough

Common early warning signs include:

  1. Cloudy urine
  2. Strange smelling urine
  3. Nausea or abdominal pain
  4. Pain when urinating
  5. Urgency

It’s also important to be proactive about preventing UTIs in the first place. UTIs are commonly caused by harmful bacteria traveling up the urinary tract and spreading in the bladder. There are dozens of types of harmful bacteria but the most common is e-coli which comes from our stool.

What can you teach your girls to help them prevent a UTI:

  1. Teach her to wipe front to back to help prevent e-coli bacteria from traveling up the urethra.
  2. Remind her to stay hydrated throughout the day. Urinating is the body's way of flushing out bacteria.
  3. Take femiNature daily. Our patent-pending formula contains everything you need to prevent and treat UTIs naturally. The prebiotics help re-balance the body's flora by strengthening the good bacteria that fights off the harmful bacteria. The D Mannose is a sugar found in fruit and it's been clinically proven to flush out e-coli which tends to stick to our body's bladder lining and is, therefore, harder to get rid of than other types of bacteria.
  1. Keep some feminine wipes that are pH balanced and all natural to help her clean herself more thoroughly and prevent e-coli from entering the urethra.

The better we educate ourselves and the more connected we feel to our bodies, the healthier we will be. It's all about natural prevention and awareness!
